Cover, terrain and satcom
Three things on your map that change how far radios reach: buildings and forests you tag, the hills themselves, and satellite terminals.
Cover zones
Tag a part RadioCover and a radio link that crosses it loses range. Give it a String attribute CoverType to say how much:
| Type | Range left after crossing one |
|---|---|
| Forest | 85% |
| Building (the default) | 60% |
| Concrete | 40% |
| Bunker | 20% |
Zones stack, but a link always keeps at least a tenth of its range, so someone deep in a bunker can still reach a man standing on top of it. Cover shortens range: up close a call is still perfectly clear.
Terrain
Hills between two radios shorten the link, with nothing to set up: the server measures your map's ground as links cross it and remembers it. Inside a cover zone only real Terrain counts as ground.
Tag something that isn't ground, such as a bridge over a gorge, RadioTerrainIgnore.
Satcom
The PRC-163 and PRC-117G can call by satellite, far past any hill, if the player is plugged into a satcom terminal and the terminal can see open sky. Tag a part RadioSatcom to make a terminal; players press E beside it to plug in.
- The cable is 25 studs. At 20 a line says CABLE STRETCHED; past 25 it comes out
- Dying unplugs you
- Up to 4 players per terminal
- A roof within 500 studs above the terminal blocks the sky
